Richard. I don't usually comment on articles about me to the journalist directly, but these days the internet has made it so easy, no?
I thought I should clarify a few things to you. The reason I briefly considered real estate investment was because I had so much EXTRA MONEY, not because my career was failing, as you have implied in your article. Also, it is NOT suprising that Kim Deal and I should get along during our reunion rehearsals. We get along just fine and we always have; it is only because rock journalists like yourself have spread this particualr rumor so constantly over the years that she and and will forever be labeled as a feuding creative couple. Also, for the record, the compilation that 4AD is putting out is The Pixies' second compilation to be released; the first one has been deleted from their catalogue. While I am quite happy about the fact that 4AD finds the band marketable in this way, I do not have any control over the compilations that they release.
Frank,
Indeed, isn't the internet great? Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. The article that was published in Liberation actually made me want to restart my blog because of the cutting (starting with the mention of your keynote speech at the conference: it seems like we had a one on one in Hollywood... everything about the conference was just cut off) and of the heavy-handed editing that made me say things I didn't write or think (judgement about the band, cheap shots etc.) This kind of things doesn't make me happy either. But it happens a lot too, in addition to reporting mistakes, which I try hard to avoid so that I can sleep better at night.
But regarding the real estate: it's presented as a way for you to make a living and not have to worry about money in the future. Which, I understand, was one of your goals.
Your comment was cool though. I remember how angry Rodney Bingenheimer got when a French mag I interviewed him for put a picture of Kim Fowley as Rod

(part II) as Rodney. Kim was also not happy! It's understandable and I had some explaining to do when I bumped into Kim later.
Best,

Frank -- As Emmanuelle's husband, I can exclusively confirm that she was pissed off the day the story ran, after seeing the judgmental editing. I think the guy back in Paris fashions himself as an arbiter of 1980s rock music (a tendency not uncommon at Liberation), and he apparently (and inexplicably) is not a big Pixies fan. I enjoyed your panel thing, by the way. Especially the bit about being a snake.
It turns out that the editor is a brilliant spirit who has become a very dear friend. He introduced French kids to the Cure, including me, and famously compared Robert Smith to a grouper fish. His articles back then changed my life in many ways. Can't wait to be at the Coachella festival.
This is the best! Charles, thanks for visiting Buzznet. Emmanuelle, i don't read French, and am afraid of Google translations, but from what i heard from David Lovering, the rehearsals have been going great, and everyone has always gotten along great. Well, David has been on the road w/ the Breeders and Frank Black opening for a long time.
I just hope that we get to hear some new Pixies music soon, its been FAR TOO LONG...
I can't wait to see The Pixies again. More on my blog.
